BIOGRAPHY
Liezl was born and raised in Bellville, whereafter she studied Dentistry at the University of Stellenbosch. She graduated and qualified as a dentist as the top student in her class, even though she never enjoyed dentistry. During her lecturing years at the University of Pretoria, she attended a congress where she was exposed to the art of Dale Elliott at a workshop meant for the spouses! She was so inspired, that she immediately signed up for an art course with Dale in Knysna. Motivated and full of creativity, her art career began in 1998.
Her love of colour and textures is clearly visible in her artwork. During her years in Pretoria she helped decorating homes throughout South Africa by selling many pieces through exhibitions, art dealers and galleries.
With her return to the Western Cape in 2011, she began her own medical aesthetic practice. That triggered her interest in faces and she has since been focussing on large portraits of women with specific reference to facial expression and colour. She brings out the softness in most of her paintings but also successfully demonstrates the strength and confidence in the facial expressions of woman in a changing world.
Her other passion in life is flowers, as can be seen in her colourful abstract flower scenes.
Liezl is married to Leon, an engineer, and they have three adult sons and one daughter in law.
